Step 2: Problems are Opportunities

Steven was very tired after staring at the monitor for long hours.

"Damn!" his thoughts were disturbed the whole day.

It was not a pleasant day for him. He arrived late at work because his mate forgot to refill the empty tank of his car after she drove out last night. His car caused a massive traffic jam and he had to wait for an hour for the tow truck to arrive.

Just as he arrived in the office, he received a call from his boss's secretary, summoning him into the boss's room. He went in anticipating a praise from his boss but too bad his anticipation turned disappointment. His boss gave him 8 words "This is not what I want to see".

He went to his seat trying to figure out what went wrong to his proposal, only to find out it was incomplete because he was provided with incomplete information.

"Damn! Why didn't I put more initiative and do more research on it? Now i have to start doing all over again," Steven was very disappointed with himself.

Suddenly he saw his msn blinking.

"Argh! What Dominique wants today?" he asked himself. He didn't feel like answering him because chances of him pestering at his private life was high. He decided to open the chat box to see what other surprises awaited him.

"Eh bro...dinner tonite?" said Dominique.

"Okla...i cancel all appointments just to have dinner with you la..." Steven answered in a leisure manner.

That night, Steven had a last minute meeting. So Dominique waited for him for almost an hour. When Steven arrived, he felt sorry because Dominique waited for so long.

They sat down and Steven begun complaining about his day.

"Bro, to be very honest, problems are part of life regardless whether they are big or small issues. It is how we handle the problems that matters. Even if at this moment, you are still feeling unhappy with your day, what difference does it make to you tonight? Does it make a difference tomorrow morning as well?" Dominique voiced it out to Steven in a strong tone.

"Agree," Steven answered after pondering for a moment.

"What happen to us today will be history tomorrow. It is how we handle our problems today that will benefit us tomorrow," Dominique said as he took a sip on his drink.

"But my problems are still there," added Steven after a long sigh.

"You take control of your own thoughts, emotions and actions. In short, you take control of your life. The best way to deal with problems is to re-order your thinking and see them as opportunities to be mature," Dominique stated his point instantly.

"But then..."Steven was trying to finish his sentence but Dominique interrupted.

"Remember. If there were no problems in your job; chances are good that you are not needed. Chances are also good when the greater the difficulties, the greater is the need for you to be there to handle them. Bro, isn't that the reason you're on the payroll?" Dominique laughed as he finish his sentence.

Steven took a deep long breathe and thought for a while before replying Dominique.

"Eh...what happen today? Why you suddenly talk like that?" Steven questioned Dominique as he sounded different that night.

"No la...i was reading about problem solving so I thought maybe i should just share some with you," Dominique said with a grin on his face.

"I personally think we had been resting on our laurels for too long," Steven said while drinking his cup of coffee.

"Agree. So I think it is time for us to make things happen!" Dominique proclaimed it with seriousness.

Come back next week for the next step to lead a positive life.
